The Split Rock Fire Department was established in 1954, originally named Sioux Falls - Split Rock Fire Department. You might ask, why was Sioux Falls in the name? Our current station near Arrowhead Parkway and Six Mile Road has not always been our station. One of our first stations was on the corner of East 10th Street and Sycamore Ave. As we continue to uncover our departments history this page will be updated.
Currently, the Split Rock Fire Department covers approximately 30 square miles, mostly on the East side of Sioux Falls, however, some of the area is still 'surrounded' by the City of Sioux Falls. We have members ranging in age from 18 years old to 65 years old. We respond to a wide range of calls including medical emergencies, fires, motor vehicle accidents, rescues, and more. We also have the privilege of responding mutual aid for Brandon Fire Department, Valley Springs Fire Department, Renner Fire Department, Harrisburg Fire Department, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, and more.
